Our formation

Back in 2003, the Australian registered company known as "Ozmodco Pty Limited" came into being for the purpose of manufacturing and producing scale replica models of Australian Railways outline in HO scale. In this regard, there was at the time an assessed need to produce for the Australian and world-wide markets superior scale replica models of outstanding quality and accuracy that had never been produced before.

With this purpose in mind, the principals of Ozmodco Pty Limited ( a registered company derived from the name " Aus Model Company" ), made an offer to purchase from a deceased estate the defunct business name of "Trainorama" together with a quantity of obsolete tooling so-named therewith. The manufacture in China of Ozmodco's first HO scale Australian Railways outline model, the "44 Class" was soon put in train ( pun ) for release under the resurrected old brand name of "Trainorama". The next models to follow were the RU "four wheeler" wheat hopper manufactured from re-worked old Trainorama tooling and a new "four wheeler", the Steel S-Truck and then of course followed the manufacture and release of the South Australian Railways much admired 930 Class.

Our business name

During the twelve months which followed between March 2004 and April 1st 2005, negotiations to purchase the declining hobbyshop business and deceased estate known as "Tom's Discount Hobby Warehouse" located at West Ryde ( Sydney ) New South Wales were completed, with the ownership of TDHW passing to Ozmodco Pty Limited on April 1st, 2005. From that date, it was decided to change the name of the acquired business to "Tom's Hobbies", principally because most existing customers still referred to the retail outlet in question as "Tom's", a name easily remembered. A future possibility might see a further name change to "Trainorama Hobbies", a name first registered by one of the directors of Ozmodco Pty Limited way back in 1975. But, much thought will pass under the bridge before any such future name change will be decided upon.

Our diversity

So, is "Tom's Hobbies" all about marketing only the products of "Trainorama" ? The answer is a big fat no ! "Tom's Hobbies" is all about being the best one-stop hobby shop for most, if not all hobby needs. This means effectively supplying the needs of modellers who follow the railways of other countries, inparticular the USA, the UK, Europe and even China. Plus, supplying the many needs of the non-railway modellers, who prefer collecting many varieties of plastic kits, from ships, planes and military models to kits for building structures of all sorts. Not forgetting, that as a good hobbyshop, we always carry many assessories from model railway track and hobby tools to glues, paint and paintbrushes, plus helpful advice from our staff. Visitors, enquirers and observers ( lookers ) are always welcome, with absolutely no-one asked to buy !

Our future

At "Tom's", we are intent upon providing a more than just satisfactory service to our customers. Representatives from "Toms Hobbies" attend regularly where possible, at trade fairs both in Australia and overseas so as to be able to bring to our customers a choice of quality products at the best competitive prices. Every line of product is important to us, whilst we take notice of all customer feedback, whether such be 'wants' or constructive criticisms.

In a nutshell, it could be said that at "Tom's" we intend to maintain a good range of diverse products, with good select buying-in of the 'latest' quality, as well as many hard-to-get items at the right price. Plus, bring to our shelves as exclusive to "Tom's", an ever increasing availability of the latest "Trainorama" products of quality second to none.
